Acrospermum chilense sp. nov. from Chile and the Acrospermales ord. nov. Boletín de la Sociedad
Minter,D.W.; Peredo,H.L.; Watson,Anna T..
Acrospermum chilense sp. nov. on living stems of Chusquea quila from southern Chile is described, illustrated and discussed. The asci and ascospores, more than 1000 µ m long, may be the longest ever found in the ascomycetes. The ordinal position of the family Acrospermaceae is discussed, and the order Acrospermales ord. nov. is erected to accommodate it.

Factors affecting the thermal activation of Neosartorya fischeri in pineapple and papaya nectars BJM
Slongo,Adriana Paula; Aragão,Gláucia Maria Falcão de.
In this research factors that influence the activation of Neosartorya fischeri ascospores (heating medium, temperature of production and age of the ascospores) were studied. The heating medium used was pineapple and papaya nectars at different ratios (ºBrix/acidity). Lower activation times were observed for the N. fischeri ascospores in pineapple and papaya nectars under the conditions of temperature and production age of 25ºC for 1 month and using ratios of the heating medium of 10 for pineapple nectar and 26 for papaya nectar. In these cases, the activation time was 5 minutes for the pineapple nectar and 10 minutes for the papaya nectar at 85ºC. For the ascospores produced at 35ºC over three months, heated in pineapple nectar at a ratio of 38 and in...

Susceptibility of fruits of the 'Valência' and 'Natal' sweet orange varieties to Guignardia citricarpa and the influence of the coexistence of healthy and symptomatic fruits Trop. Plant Pathol.
Baldassari,Ricardo Braga; Reis,Renato Ferrari; Goes,Antonio de.
The importance of the presence of symptomatic fruits with citrus black symptoms (CBS) on the disease severity level in subsequent crop production was assessed in an orchard planted with Valência and Natal sweet orange varieties. Additionally, the period of susceptibility of the fruits of these varieties was evaluated. Fruits were covered with paper bags at the stage of 75% fallen petals and were then exposed to natural infection at weekly intervals, from October 2000 to April 2001. This process was carried out in plants where the fruits from the previous harvest had been picked as well as in plants where fruits remained until natural drop. The evaluation of disease severity used a scale that varied from 0 (absence of symptoms) to 6 (severe symptoms). It...
